Chennai’s music, filter coffee and sea breeze stayed with me longer than the beaches

When I was planning my trip to Chennai, the beaches excited me most. Marina Beach had been on my list for years, and I had heard just as much about Elliot’s Beach. I imagined spending long evenings by the sea, watching the waves roll while enjoying the sunset.

The beaches certainly lived up to the expectations, but they weren’t what stayed with me after I left. It was the sound of Carnatic music, drifting through cultural spaces, the aroma of freshly brewed filter coffee every morning, and the cool sea breeze that seemed to follow me wherever I went. Somewhere along the way, Chennai became way more than just another destination on my travel list.

By the time my trip ended, I wasn’t just taking photographs home. I was carrying memories of a city that had quietly found a place in my heart.

Chennai greeted me with warmth from the very first day

Chennai felt lively and welcoming from the moment I stepped in. Mornings were full of bustling streets, smiling faces, and cafés selling hot filter coffee. The city had a vibrancy that was both exciting and comforting.

Exploring the city was easy as we stayed at one of the well-connected hotels in Chennai. Everything from cultural attractions to local cafés to the coastline was within easy reach, so I could spend more time enjoying the city instead of constantly figuring out how to get there.

Chennai’s music became the soundtrack of my journey

One of the most memorable parts of my visit was discovering Chennai’s deep love for music.  The city is famous as the home of Carnatic music and really celebrates this beautiful tradition.

I found music in concert halls, temples, cultural places, and community events. Each performance was rich with years of tradition and created a welcoming environment, even to first-time listeners.

Listening to these soulful performances added a unique charm to my trip. It wasn’t just entertainment. It felt like experiencing an important part of Chennai’s identity.

Chennai’s filter coffee was the perfect way to begin every morning

No visit to Chennai is complete without tasting the famous filter coffee. It started as something I wanted to try for a few minutes, and now it’s my favourite part of every morning.

Rich, aromatic, and comforting, it was poured into a traditional steel tumbler. I had it with crispy dosas, fluffy idlis, buttery pongal, and fresh vadas, making breakfast one of the best highlights.

The cafes were inviting, encouraging visitors to sit back and relax and enjoy the simple pleasures of tasty food and great coffee.

Chennai’s sea breeze made every evening memorable

The beaches of Chennai were as I had expected. I have beautiful memories of watching the waves, walking along the seashore, and having colourful sunsets.

It was the refreshing sea breeze that made each outing feel even better. Whether it was wandering around Marina Beach, Elliot’s Beach, or just exploring the surrounding cafes, the gentle breeze brought a freshness to every moment.

Chennai encouraged me to enjoy every moment

Every day offered something new to discover. I spent some days visiting cultural landmarks, while others were about trying local food, exploring neighbourhoods, or simply enjoying the city’s relaxed surroundings.

What I love about Chennai is how easily different experiences can merge. The mix of heritage, music, food, beaches, and daily life means you feel like you’ve done everything you need to do, even if you have got nothing planned.

Staying at one of the strategically located hotels in Chennai was also beneficial because it was easy to explore the city at my own pace.

Final thoughts on Chennai

I travelled to Chennai expecting beautiful beaches, and I definitely found them. On the way, I also found a city of timeless music, unforgettable filter coffee, welcoming hospitality, and refreshing sea breezes that made each day a joy.

Chennai has experiences that you will remember long after the trip is over. Every minute at a classical concert, sipping a fresh filter coffee, watching waves roll in, or wandering through a lively neighbourhood feels real and memorable.

If you are planning a visit, book one of the well-located hotels in Chennai and allow yourself plenty of time to enjoy what this city has to offer.  You may come for the beaches, but you will leave with memories of Chennai culture, flavours, and a friendly spirit that will stay with you for years.
